LIFE IS ABOUT CHOICE--YOUR CHOICE

                                                               Marilyn L. Redmond

Life is About Choice—Your Choice

By Marilyn L Redmond

It may seem like the roof is caving in, all of life is fanatical, with taxes and wars never ending. Have you noticed that when life has smoothed out then another issue arises? The vicissitudes of life are there for a reason. Ultimately, they bring balance.

Our lives have a purpose and each event, good or bad, have meaning for us to examine. The ones we call bad are there to teach us a lesson. What did the situation emotionally trigger in you? Did you get angry, get revenge, or get sullen. Is that how you dealt with this kind of situation growing up or early in your life? Do you continue to react in this kind of life situation and things seem to never change?

When I was older, I learned that I had to change with a new response instead of acting from my old ways. I did not have to stay in my immature childish ways of acting. I had been reacting from some kind of fear. In my early growing up, my parents did the best that they could, but as a child, I did not see it that way, In my feeling insecure, feeling a lack of, feeling lonely, or rejected. I wanted love, caring, and hugs saying I love you.

Being naïve, I married and recreated the family in which I grew up. The roof was still caving in after a few years. I was not taught about how life worked or how to have trust, communications, or feelings. I was stuck at a young age, emotionally. I remember at the age of five telling myself, "If being an adult is about fighting every night, then I do not want to grow up."

I continued my immaturity into my fifties, married as a teacher, mother, and working in the family business. I was never given a choice. I was a great "doer". Through circumstances, I found a spiritual program that had information very new to me. My first insight was that I had been living in fear. In addition, my new information had answers different from the religion in which I was raised.

I found new answers to be helpful in all parts of my life. I could respond to life situations in loving resolutions, instead of my old ways. I learned that I was like a magnet in the fear and the fearful situations kept coming to me. Making a list of the fears and reframing them into positive thoughts was bringing better results.  When I saw that this was improving my life, I continued to find my guilt, shame, jealousy, and other negative thinking to restate them into positive perceptions called affirmations.

I could claim the truth about myself. I was not unworthy, without value, or used merchandize. I could substitute the positive for the negative. This brought truth into my life. Continuing through many years of self-searching, prayer, and meditation to replace the misinformation, lies, and false beliefs was my inner work. Each time brought more peace and grace into my life. I felt a relief as my awareness moved into a higher consciousness of a beneficent universe that created it all. I began to see that the fear had blocked my vision of truth, where all is good. The fear was an illusion and blocked the truth that love is reality.

Making this change takes faith and trust in a higher power. I saw myself walk into the hands of a loving Creator leaving the past behind. I chose to have a life seeing the positive in all things. With my new choices over time, I moved more into a higher realization. Life was becoming better, I felt better, and I could see that life is good. I was going through a transition into new understandings about life. Ultimately, I gave up beliefs and now come from my heart instead of my head.

I could give up the judgment I learned so well from my mother. This allows me to be in a non-judgmental awareness about life and people. In changing myself, I became a new person as if I had a new pair of glasses. I finally realized they were my teachers to teach me to turn to "The Father of Light" in all things. Love and light are the same energy.

The past anguish brought me to turn to a loving universe for help and support. If I stayed in my pain and anger, I could not have grown into my new world of seeing life and those challenges as opportunities to grow and mature. I would have remained immature and childish. I found forgiveness and compassion for those in my past that brought on difficult situations. Gradually, I was able to thank them in prayer, as they had past.

I have grown up and am grateful for all the good things I did not glimpse before. Learning to "let go and let God", I no longer needed to run from life. I could accept life on life's terms, even if I was not thrilled about it. I do not resist, but accept it learning the lesson to move beyond my old thoughts, words, or actions. I can choose to have love be my guide and foundation in life's experiences. Those experiences become wisdom. This brings joy and fills me with the love I always wanted and was only hidden. . Love never fails.

MOVE INTO A HIGHER PERCEPTON FOR A NEW VISION

There is always more to learn on the path of spirituality and personal growth. I will never graduate as the levels of vibration and frequencies of awareness continue upward. I needed to obtain a divorce to be safe. Nevertheless, I realized I needed to acknowledge my part; I wanted to move into a better place beyond the past harms. For that reason, I discovered that forgiveness and making amends frees me to do this. This allows me to move into a higher perception.

This was not easy for me at first; I have to forgive all those harms from the past. Realizing, inner peace is only complete by forgiveness for others and myself brought a new understanding. My ego wanted to prove I had the right to be distressed. It told me that my husband could not be forgiven when I was harmed by his actions and abuse. Conversely, I read that it is a spiritual axiom that every time we are disturbed, no matter what the cause, there is something wrong with us.

This means I have to look at myself and get honest about my motivations and actions. It is necessary to look at my side of the street in all my dealings. I have to see where my own behavior has affected someone else. The picture is not pretty when I get honest. I even won an international writing contest with my article, "All Time Victim". It is available on my web site or on Amazon.  Recognizing that I was in survival and self-seeking as a victim was an abrupt awakening. It was not easy to accept. Yes, I was the injured party but I played the part very well.

I used people for my security, protection, to love me, and take care of me. It became time to grow up. I was dishonest with myself, thinking other people were there to make me okay, provide my needs, and love me. I was so afraid in my wounded place that all I could see was poor me, poor me. I recognized that I was keeping myself that victim by not acting in my own best interest.

Becoming assertive instead of passive was the key to changing my thinking from being the prey. It was a huge step out of my being the injured party. Taking the steps to become courageous to speak up for my needs had never been in the cards for me. When I was a child, I was to be seen and not heard. In fact, my stepfather told me, “We do not want to hear what you have to say.”

My journey sorting out the truth from the false is continuing. This is a long process with lots of challenges and lessons in its path to not mentally and emotionally continue recreating my learned mindset and reactions from childhood. In my book, "Paradigm Busters", at Amazon, I explain all the steps to release the past for a new life. The work is worth the effort. As I was in the early stages of this change, I found grace in my meditation while camping at a national park. It felt good. I wanted more of that.

I was living in a fantasy that everyone and everything should go my way. I learned to forgive myself as I did survive the abuse, trauma, and difficulties. Now it is time to move into maturity. I vowed never to volunteer to be a victim again. Neale Donald Walsch said, "Move forward with no second-guessing, no guilt trips, no hesitation. Your purpose is to recreate yourself anew in each moment." I needed to give up the past by releasing it for the good feelings.

Realizing that I was being influenced from my past harms that continued in the old ways of reacting, was a challenge. The choice to live in current situations and not run from them was a huge step into growing up. The help I needed was to turn to the Father of Light in all things.

It would take courage to respond to daily life experiences with new and healthy tools. One way to help me was by saying, "God I need more faith for this one, here we go again". Then I found an affirmation that I daily declare to help. It is "God there is nothing that you and I together, cannot do, today." Asking for help made a lot of difference. It brought the audacity I lacked. Nowadays, I move forward in life, learning to do the next right thing in front of me. It keeps my focus on the "Now" which is reality. Doing the right thing is never wrong.

Recognizing that living in the moment is a gift and that is why it is called The Present brought a new vision for moving forward in my life out of being a victim from my past. This clears the slate to be autonomous. “The New Me” is one of my early poems in my first book, "Roses Have Thorns".

               Vision—A “New” Me

Total acceptance of myself means the opportunity

for reality. Unconditional love grants

my own gentleness, caring. Courtesy lifts

my dignity, sees value. Tolerance

understands favorably my mistakes,

errors. Self-esteem believes in confidence,

guides my life. Sharing my experiences, feelings

creates life’s happiness. Many interests

bring a fulfilling life, helping others

through their strife. Spirituality generates

peace of mind, worth, knows

the purpose for my birth.

My books are being distributed internationally to prisons and used as a booked study in San Quentin. I was just included in the current, prodigious book, "Who's Who in America. How Do You Harness Your Energy?

Have you often felt powerless and without control of your life? Are we really lacking the ability to influence your circumstances? Why do some people get the great results, while you sit on the sidelines?

You have energy in your life. The answer lies in how you use your inner spirit often labeled energy. Some people ignore this beneficial influence and some people have learned to harness their energy and use it well. It is often called chi, prana, or vital life force. An invisible, beneficent, vibrating force that gives us growth and manifests in my life is a new thought for some.

Spiritual power is invisible and usually not included for personal direction and guidance in life. This power can also be thought of as a Creative Intelligence or universal consciousness underlying the totality of things. Edgar Cayce the great psychic of the 20th century called it the Creative Forces and in the movie, Star Wars, called it "The Force".

Over the ages, the message has been that we have little influence over our predicaments. In the past, I believed that I would always be in a terrible, horrible, and painful life being raised and married into domestic violence. After years of playing the victim and giving away my power, I discovered that I did not have to do that. It was time to stop volunteering to be a victim.

Finding different ways to manifest a healthier life style became my new goal.* First, I had to be committed to going to any lengths to change my old ways and ideas. They brought on my depression, harm, and illness. The old ideas were ingrained in me from my family, church, medicine, school, and societies' rules. Instead, I had to trust my inner love/light to support me.

My answer was to change my thoughts and beliefs for new results. I could alter my thinking into a new productive mindset. My imprisonment from false beliefs and thinking could bring freedom. Transforming my attitudes from negative to the positive became a major challenge for my new way of living.

Affirmations became my new encouraging view. Realizing they were simple statements of truth surprised me. I discovered that I had lived in fantasy and not reality. I felt changes happening.
The fact is fear attracts fearful results. Fearful messages edge God out. As I let go of each fear, I started to merge more of God's love and grace in to fill the empty space left.

I began to identify each of my ego's messages that were projecting fear and producing my lifelong misery. That there is a universal law that "Like attracts like" became a new understanding. Sending out loving energy would improve my circumstances. I cannot have fear and faith at the same time.

Staying in fear keeps me immature. A child is afraid of the Boogie Man. With the light of truth, the darkness leaves. I can then respond in a loving mature response. Because I was truly wanting a happy life, my ego needed to be reduced from running the show.*

Discovering a hundred forms of fear was my chief motivation was a new understanding. I found fearful ideas created irrational results. They were the obstacles to a better life; I was ready to let them go. That is why I never could improve my life. I learned, "Let go and let God". I also used a God Box where I placed a piece of paper with each named fear written on it, to release them from my mind.  Life started to feel better. It was working.

In addition, resentments had to be recognized and released. They are symbolic of a little child throwing a temper tantrum because something or someone did not go their way. Transforming the anger of the resentment into being upset and then disappointed, I found that furious energy gradually dissolves. Today, I choose to act in helpful ways and forgive.

Directing my power beyond the childish responses opens new doors to abundance and prosperity. This brings a new sense of security and comfort.

Messages of my lack of security and lack of love from the ego were the only obstacles to manifesting happiness and prosperity. Therefore, allowing spirit to flow through me and expand is necessary. Spirituality is energy in expansion. Watching the miracles appear is amazing.

Spirituality is very practical. Moving into a loving basis was exciting to me. My life began to bloom. Changing negative thoughts, words, or actions into positive ones made a difference.
I found a decorative plaque in a bookstore that listed the fruits of the spirit.  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."Galatians 5:22-23 is a typical list for the aspects of spirituality. Each week, I practice a different aspect and apply it in my life. Over time, my progress has shown harmony and peace. This is my reward.

When I express gratitude, even more goodness manifests. Listing everything for which I am grateful and adding to my gratitude list, brings further happiness. In addition, learning forgiveness is a major change for me. This removes the victim chains to the past. I found compassion for those people, as they are hurting from their own problems. Learning that we are all one in spirit brings unconditional love. I can love the person and not the behavior.

These ideas change everything. I am free to be myself. Stopping my reacting in fear to responding in love is empowering. I move beyond resentments and fear into maturity knowing everything is exactly as it needs to be for my lessons in growing up. Trusting that the universe will support me in all things brings peace of mind and grace. Being of assistance to others from my newfound love in my heart brings "Heaven on Earth".
